    Rim spoke eyelet cracks

Picked up a set of wheels cheap. Spun the one in question, saw it would need some truing, but did not see a problem. Started truing and noticed the following:

I am thinking this rim is not going to be one that I want to ride.

You are thinking correctly. That rim is toast.

Yup. And the nipple has been rounded off because someone over tightened it. Keep the hub, trash the rest.

Those spokes must have been waaaay too tight at some point in time. And yes, the rims are trash now.

Too bad...it's mate is perfect. Suntour Superbe small flange and Araya 700c rims. But for what I paid, the hubs by themselves were a steal. Thanks all for confirming my thoughts.
