Bottom Bracket Issue (Retitled)
I got an old frame off ebay
turns out the BB was put on backwards-with great possibilities that the threading is trashed
some guy said he could get it out(LBS-cause I don;t have every single tool ever made)---without knowing about the BB problems- for a few bucks
A friend was talking about a type of BB that can go in stripped frames-that doesn;t need threads-just like lock the sides or something-does anyone know anything about this?

are you sure it's not just an italian or french BB? what do you mean when you say it was "put in backwards"? like, non drive side cup on the drive side? seems like that would be a VERY difficult task to complete. and easy one to make, but difficult to see through to the end.

if I a stradling- the lockring is on the rightside
I already took it to 2 shops
and they couldn;t get it off

if it's a cup and cone BB, that is not really normal, if it's a sealed cartridge BB, that is totally normal, and it's probably just rusted in there. and if it's totally effed in the a, then that's that. no one's really getting screwed, or ripped off here....except maybe you, i guess...

I believe MAC was wondering if it would be WRONG to enter into a contract for BB removal for a few bucks, knowing that the mechanic would be contracting for a difficult or impossible task, possibly damaging the bike and being culpable for replacement/repair. I think it is unlikely that the bottom bracket was installed with it's threading backwards to the bike. An Italian BB installed backwards is likely. Perhaps information on what type of bike this is would be helpful. Can you link to the auction, MAC? If it's an aluminum frame, I've heard ammonia is a good penetrant to loosen "rusted" threads.

I can't say for sure, but ... there's a bit of a bike path not far from my house. At one point, it's surrounded on either side by golf-course type water hazards. After it rains, the water overflows the bike path.
The last time I rode the Moots there, in those conditions, I'm almost certain that the waters parted as I approached.

I've always said: a sloppy-looking weld might be structurally perfect. A beautiful weld may not be perfect, and -- in any case -- may not be any better than any other weld.
