Brake problem on new bike

One brake (direct pull) on my new bike is not working. The noodle will not stay in its slot in the arm link because the metal around the slot is deformed. I feel that this happened while I was removing my bike from the rack on the bus.

I want to replace the brake myself. Can anyone recommend a brand for the brakes? What tools do I need?

I am an inexperienced cyclist.

As for tools, really all you should need is (maybe) a couple of allen wrenches. As for what brand...well...how much do you want to spend? IMHO, ShimaNO v-brakes really do feel the best when it comes to linear pull type. But I run Avid's front and rear with some Deore levers. The Avid brakes ran me something like $30 a pair at my LBS. If you want just a inexpensive replacement, nothing wrong with the Tektro's for general mountain bike use. They can generally be found in shops and online for less than $20 a set.
