A question about a Brooks saddle.

The other day I found a trash bike with this beautiful saddle:

the question is: why is this leather cut in front? I don't think it was "home made" because I've see pics of the same model (professional) with and without the cut.

I think it is to provide better access to the adjustment bolt,

Give the saddle a good coat of leather balm and ride it. It will shine up sweet.
