I just brought my new Rockhopper MTB home from the shop and installed thorn resistant tubes, but couldn't get the tubes to seat quite right against the rims. The tires are 26x2.0 and the tubes are 26x1.5--2.0. So far, no matter what I do, the tubes pull away from the rims straight up from the valve stems. Only about a quarter inch of rubber stem--and all of the threaded part--comes through the rims.

This makes the tires lopsided. You would think that I'd gotten the tubes stuck under the beads. But, I've checked both tires a few times and reseated them too, only to have the same thing happen. At a higher psi its not too bad to ride on, but with a low psi I really feel the lopsided tires.

I'm bugging you guys about this because my bike shop is sixty miles away from me. I live in a little, desert town. If I can't figure it out, of course, I'll take the bike to the shop. Any ideas?

The range on the tires is 35 psi to 80 psi. At 65 psi you can see the lopsidedness, but not feel it. I weigh 140 lbs and ran the tires at about 15 psi for a sandy trail. In the sand you don't feel the problem, but back on the road it was like blop blop blop etc. The tube--which, by the valve, was never seated against the rim--was even farther away from the rim at 15 psi.
