Changing a Hyperglide-C cassette to an Interactive Glide cassette

I have an older Marin with a Hyperglide-C 7 speed cassette, Hyperglide crankset, and SRAM chain. I have a Deore XT "IG chain only" crank lying around and a new IG cassette and IG chain. I read on Sheldon's site that there are spacing issues using HyperDrive-C cassettes on conventional bodies, but nothing when going in the reverse which is what I am doing. Any ideas if I will see any issues with this proposed change?

Thanks!

HG crank will work with IG chain just fine.

I don't know about the cassette. Why not try to fit it and see if it will even go together. I'd guess that if it goes together and fits in the dropouts, you're probably fine.

The "C" stands for compact and means the freehub body will accept an 11T small cog. You can use either a 12 or 13T small cog too but it will take an 11. A non-C body won't.

IG chains are a universal fit. Shimano used to say you could use an IG chain on an HG cassette or crank but didn't recommend an HG chain on an IG cassette.

I used IG90 chains on 7 and 8-speed road bikes with HG cassettes and cranks for years and they worked great. They were truly the "sweet spot" of Shimano's chains being low cost, durable and good shifting on almost anything.
