want to learn bike mechanics

I'd like to learn more about bike mechanics. Can anyone recommend a good book or some way to learn? Quite a few years ago, I worked at a large well-known department store where I assembled bikes, but I had nothing to do with making repairs, so I'd like to learn that end of things. Thanks
