E-Type BB and F.Der to Regular BB and F.Der?

I have a creaky sealed 73 / 110.5 E-Type BB that I'd like to replace. I'm having trouble finding a 73 / 110.5 E-type BB. I don't like the E-type F. Derailler either. I have found 73/110.5 regular BBs.
So can I replace the BB with a 73/110.5 regular and a regular FD? I'd think the chainline would be ok if the spindle is the same length and the FD can reach the big ring.

I'm not exactly sure why E-type front deraillers are used on some bikes but I would think it either has to do with seat tube size or cable routing. In either case, you'll need to make sure a non-E-type front derailler will actually fit on your bike otherwise the new bottom bracket won't do you any good.

I have one on my Stumpjumper and actually really like the E-type. On my bike though, I can't put a clamp on it because Specialized "crimped" the tubing to allow more room for the derailleur. Can't really figure out why but they did. Luckily my bottom bracket has survived numerous years and haven't had the need to replace it yet. But when I do, I will probably switch over to the Shimano Hollowtech BB/crankset because they allow the E-type.
