Flat Bar road bike rapid fire shifters
I am trying to rebuild an old hybrid into a flat bar road bike and would like to use rapid fire shifters.
I have a Shimano tiagra triple chainset. Can I get away with using shimano deore rapid fire shifters or do I have to use the R440 flat bar road bike shifters that shimano insists on? Do I also have to change the front deraillier to the suggested R443, or stick with my original taigra front deralier?
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks

The first item is clearance between the rear tire and the seatpost at the derailleur location. Road derailleurs are designed to operate in a low clearance situation, MTB derailleurs will hit the tire if there is no room.
MTB front derailleurs operate at a different ratio than Road fronts. Match the shifter to the derailleur type.
The MTB derailleur may require some reshaping of the cage to operate with larger chain rings. (if you are going to use larger rings)
I believe that the R440 series is MTB derailleur ratio with a matching road capable front derailleur and if integrated with brake levers then road brake ready.
