Campy front derailleur --> Clamp to Braze-on

I want to know if it's possible to convert a Campy Record FD from 34.9mm clamp to Braze-on with some sort of adapter. I don't feel like buying a new FD for a frame so I'm looking for a cheaper solution.

You don't need to buy an adapter. All Campagnolo FD can be swapped between clamp-on and braze on. You need to order a few parts and make the switch. It is a 2 minute job.

If you look at the body of the FD, you will notice an allen key. Undue that key. Hold the der in your left hand and work it like it is shifting while you pull the clamp away from the body. The are two posts (one that was used by the allen key) that are part of the clamp assembly that will slide out of the body .

Take the braze-on bit that you ordered and reverse the process.

For a 2007 Record QS FD the part number is: FD-RE201.
You will also need: FD-VL102.

I believe the parts are the same for previous models but, I'm at home and don't have my spare parts books with me.
Take the limiter screws and springs out of the clamp and put them in the braze-on unit.

Good to go.

Bob's posting says it can be done but based on Campy's charges for repair parts, it might be cheaper to buy a new derailleur than to do the conversion.

Licktons in Chicago sells both the '06 (pre QS) and newest QS Centaur double braze-on fd for $39.

Interesting. According to Brandford bikes (thanks for the link soil sampler) The price would be exactly the same.

What they call part "D": 25 bucks
What they call part "F": 10 Bucks

The thing is, their "D" part (FD-RE201) is claimed to be good for Record, Chorus AND Centaur but the Centaur part number is FD-CE001. This is probably a materials difference. If you do go this route, make sure you tell them you want the RECORD/CHORUS part (FD-RE201).

Uh not really. Seeing as how you get two derailleurs if you buy a new one vs still having the one if you "upgrade" it. Time to learn how to do math.

Interesting perspective but the comment was meant to show that the "upgrade" and buying a new derailleur would have the same out-of-pocket cost, not that the outcomes would be identical.

Then again, if keeping the old one in its current configuration had any value to the OP, he wouldn't consider modifying it.
