Screw on Cassette

Hi, does anyone know if I can get a nine speed screw on casette, or were they ever made or manufactured ?. I have a new pair of vintage Mavic 501 hubs, but cannot get a screw on cassette to suit my bike with Sti levers. I would appreciate if anyone could advise , thanks in advance.

I believe such a thing does not exist. A few 8 speed freewheels were made but they suffered from too much unsupported axle length and thus broken axles. This is probably a major reason for the change to freehubs.

It's called a freewheel, and I don't believe they made any with more than 8 speeds. Even 8 speed ones are uncommon.

That Mallard Hilio something is the same hub my friend has. I am trying to get his bike set up with 8 speed STI. Is this one of the mentioned rare freewheel hubs that can be converted to 8 speed? The caption of two question marks leaves me with questions of my own. Any info on the hub?
