Building, need help
 

hey, i need help with a budget for my 2006 Norco Bigfoot build. im working on a parts list and first of all, i dont know how much i should spend. im 14, so i dont really have a job. im also Canadian. so if anyone can give me some advice. i dont care how much i spend really, id like to spend a minimum of $1500 though. im buying most stuff off jenson. i have my frame, bb, bars, stem, and headset, which totals at about $350. so any tips, tricks, or job ideas are welcome. also, a good budget. if you want a rough parts list, ive got one. thanks!

Why does it matter that you're Canadian. Never let that hold you back, you can overcome it.

You said $1500 Minimum. Why not stop there (or even earlier). If you need to spend even more though, you can always send me a check for my consulting fee:).

lol, the Canadian part might help with job ideas and such.

i guess i could just build it with pretty much what i want and not worry about cost, but i also want to have it done by the end of next july

You are 14, no job, need help with a budget....this makes sense so far. But you don't care how much you spend and you want to spend no less $1500. You apparently have no less than $1150 left. I'm lost on that one. I won't touch the Canadian part out of empathy to your age and other Canadians ;).

You have some parts, you want pointers and a job.

Your parents and teachers have probably told you to focus. The post needs some more focus. The most prominent idea seems to be a budget but it does not seem like you have a budgeting problem.

The only pointer I think I could give you is that it is almost always cheaper to buy a bike complete rather than to piece it together.

thats you minimum right there, i would get a really decent fork such as the pike, you can get a 20mm front wheel for under a hundred from other places such as cambria the cheapest 20mm front wheel is over 200 at pricepoint

Too much, and I know I don't capitalize what I should, so this post will be a rare grammatically correct one. I capitalize everthing properly in school, but that's school, no shift button. I would prefer not to spend more than $3000. I was out biking this evening, and I thought about my budget, I'm thinking $2000, and willing to push it too $2500. alright i have suggestions, get kenda dh tubes they are the thickest ones out there,
heres where you can save money: again i am going to suggest getting from multiple places other than jenson

For the cassette and chain go to nashbar the chain is 11.00, the cassette is 20.00 i got it for less than 14.
Don't get the speed dial sevens(they are nice but i never use the extra stuff on it that the FR-5 don't have for 14.00 from jenson)
you can do better on a wheelset from pricepoint, and get the lock ons from here or from nashbar about 8.00 with the clamps

scratch that wheelset idea, you will need a 20mm front hub with the marz dj2, so either go for a more exspensive wheelset with a 20mm hub or get a marzocchi dj3


get a deore front derailluer, (how good does the front derailluer have to be, it will never get hit, and it only can shift three times, but in your case i am assuming you will use a bashguard so 2x)
definidently get the crankset from pricepoint, because it is about half the price even though it is the 2006 model

the Panaracer tubes are plenty thick, thicker than the tubes i use, and ive never pinched them (or any flats for that matter

the chain and cassette are a fine price for me, cheaper than the bike shop, thats what my main goal is price wise.

the speed dial 7's are only a little more, and they match my bike:D which is a dark greyish silver

the wheelset is right in the middle of my price range, and with shipping, pricepoint would end up costing me more. grips are the same deal.

the crankset might save money, but its the shipping that always come backs to huant me :eek:
