Hub Dynamo

Im looking into building a front wheel with a hub dynamo. I see that Harris Cyclery carries both the Shimano Nexus and Sturmey Archer models.
What can people tell me about these? Is one preferred over another? Are they reliable?

Shimano is very reliable. The DH3D71 (and the non-disc model) have Ultegra-grade bearings.

Shimano has more than one model of dynohubs. The cheap ones are not nearly as efficient as the more expensive one. I expect the SA dynohub would be more like a cheap Shimano.

If you want the best performance, and are willing to pay for it, spend your money on a Schmidt dinohub. The Schmidt has the best efficiency and possibly the best reliability of any dynohub on the market.

Take care in your light selection. Peter White has an excellent description of the available headlights for dynohubs.
