book reccomendations?
hey just looking for book reccomendations on various bike topics. i am currently looking into becoming a bike mechanic and i really want to tackle everything i could possibly learn about bikes. its something im really passionate about so anything that you have read on any topic that you would consider comprehensive and useful (even if not useful, but at least interesting) would be great. thanks...
i would prefer books that cover the subject in debth as opposed to an overview. here are some topics i would be interested in... bicycle repair (park tool vs barnett? which book is better?) wheelbuilding comprehensive geometry framebuilding techniques history of frame tubing materials ie carbon, steel, aluminum, titanium histories of any specific manufacturer history of racing anything else you can think of.... thanks! |
For bicycle repair I have the Park Tool Blue Book. I've seen some stuff from Barnett's book and it looks great but I like the fact that I can go into any well stocked LBS and find the Park book.

All you really need right now is Sheldon Brown. You may want to pickup jobst brandst, bicycle wheel. I'm sure others have other recommendations.

Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance is an excellent choice.

Barnetts 4 volume books and the CD along with Sheldon's Web site is about the most comprehensive library you can get. Sheldon for Shimano and Barnetts for campy. For interoperability of various campy parts [url]www.branfordbike.com. Framebuilding: The Paterek Manual for Framebuilders found on the Henryjames website. Oh, yes...Google.
