New crankset
I have seen that new crank sets say they are 8 and 9 speed compatible. Are all crank sets that way. I have an 8 speed and want to put on a race face crank set but don't see anywhere that they say they are 8 and 9 speed compatible.

Are you getting a bottom bracket (BB) as well? There has been some evolution changes on the BB spindles since the 8 spds that limit your choices when selecting a crank set.

Yes. I am going with the Race Face XC Ride crank set and the Race Face XC Evolve BB. Also new chain and rear cassette.
