$4.99 Nashbar patch and pump kit mini review.
Just a heads up on the patch kit Nashbar is selling under YT-679 at $4.99. Nashbar has almost no info on their site. I decided to pick up a pair as a gamble.
The product is sold under the X Factor brand, and the back of the package claims a two year warranty, and features a 1-800 number for the manufacturer. Also on the back of the package is a fairly clear set of directions for fixing a flat.
It's not a terrible pump. I ran the air out of the back of my MTB tire, put the included mini pump on, and in about a minute of pumping, I had tired arms, but a perfectly ridable amount of air in the tube. The price alone might make me choose a different pump if I planned on being far from any support, but it didn't do anything wrong when I used it. My old Zefal didn't perform much differently. The t-handle worries me a little; while it's easy to grip, I wonder if it will slide open while riding. The pump seems to be designed for schrader valves, and has a plastic dirt cover over the end.
Also in the kit is a fairly cheap looking multi-size hex wrench, presumably for removing non-quick-release wheels, and a patch kit that comes in a clever box that has two plastic tire irons as the lid. The patches, glue, and cheese grater inside all look to be standard fare. There's a set of clips for mounting the pump on a set of water bottle mounts, and a pair of zip ties with plastic studs, allowing mounting of the pump on frames that don't have the cage mounts. I'm using it.
So, it's cheap, but it's certainly worth the $4.99. Code STBRFS gives you free ground shipping with no minimum through the 28th.
