Is the Mavic CXP-33 rim an updated version of the CXP-30?

No, the CXP-30 was a 30,5mm high aero rim, while the new CXP-33 rim is only 23,5 mm high, and therefore doesn't qualify as aero. It is a great "clydesdale" rim however, since it is strong and can take a lot of spoke tension without the rim start cracking.

With all due respect, if you look at the extrusion crosssections of the two rim models, they are almost identical, with only the height being different. The basic design is the same. Also, the CXP-33 is made from Maxtal alloy, resulting in a lighter rim and the nipple sleeve design is upgraded. The "33" is, indeed, an evolution of the model "30".

I don't know what your definition of "aero" is, but the "30's" were marketed as such and I have always heard them described as "aero".

This is nitpicking but I wouldn't really consider 30 or 33, "aero". At best, semi-aero.
