shimano 600 rear derailleur overhaul

hello all, my name is chris. i have a shimano 600 groupset in great condition for its age. it is the seven speed, right before sti 8 speed 600 was introduced (i think). so my question is about the rear derailleurs pulley gears. the plastic gears are looking a tad worn, and i mentioned this to a shop mechanic. he told me that i might be able to pull some parts from an old shimano road derailleur to replace them. how does this strike yall, smart or not worth the trouble? ideally i would find one easily and replace them straight up.

is there a place i can find a replacement that fits? thanks for any info!

They are pretty std Shimano from what I can recall (2 stamped plates, internal bushing), I had one for many years. The mounting screw is different (8mm hex cap instead of Allen recessed). I would try the mounting screw on a modern Ultegra pulley, and see what it looks like.

If they're only a tad worn, don't worry about replacing them. Clean and lube the shafts, bushings or bearings, and go ride. Until the teeth are all but gone, you don't have to worry as long as they run free and everything is properly adjusted.
