SR Suntour Superbe / Campagnolo ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE

Hi everyone,

I was riding on my TREK 1200 a week ago & I heard this really bad sound from the back. The cassette seemed to want to change gear by itself. I took the back wheel to the local bike mechanic and it turns out the hub has collapsed.

As it is a campagnolo hub it can't be fixed locally, so it will have to be taken to a specialist instead. However, I wanted to know whether it would be better to convert to Shimano as I mainly have Shimano parts on the bike (Tiagra Shifters, 105 Rear Mech).

I was thinking of buying a new tiagra hub, fitting that to the rim with a new shimano cassette. Only problem is would a Shimano chain be ok for a SR Suntour Superbe crankset?

If anyone can give me any sort of advice about my situation, it would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ben

rear cogs don't care about the crankset, chain only cares a little bit, so your idea is just fine.

Is this a really old Trek 1200?

If you want to convert to Shimano, go ahead. But do consider the recent Campagnolo groups too. They are excellent. And available for less than might think

Hi,

I think its a 2001 / 2002 model. Yeah, have been looking at the Campagnolo Veloce rear hub, if I pay to get it sorted, that will probably be the new one put on.
