Brifter range of motion for double setup?

My brifter that adjusts the front derailleur has motion to keep shifting outwards out from the frame, even though it has already shifted onto the big chain ring. The front derailleur doesn't actually move, but if I press hard enough, the front derailleur will move a tiny bit more, even when already on the big chain ring in front. IS something wrong?? I never really looked into this, but I can do this on both the bikes that I own.

I wonder about this because I always have to put a lot of effort into shifting to the big chain ring in front!

Do you have another click? Is it a triple Shifter on a double chainring?

If not I'm guessing it shifts fine? If you aren't dropping chains and your shifting is crisp don't sweat it. There's no problem.

If you want to take up some of that slack, back your inner limiter screw off by half a turn. Doing this, however, you run the risk of dropping your chain to the inside. If you have been experiencing chain rub on the inner plate of the cage when out of the saddle in your 23,25,27 then this could be the root cause and backing the screw out will solve both problems.

Or I could be totally wrong.

There isn't another click, but when I think I've shifted to the big chain ring, I push let it back to initial position and push again harder, there is a subtle movement in the front derailleur. My shifting is unfortunately not crisp right now. I'm trying to solve the chain rubbing on the front derailleur. in 23 ( I run 11-23 )

Your shifter is fine. It's supposed to do that.

It sounds to me like you need a front deailleur adjustment. As a general rule, willy-nilly front derailleur adjustments are a bad policy. My advice is to go to the Park Tool website and follow their step-by-step directions for setting up a front derailleur starting at the very beginning with the shift cable disconnected.
