Recommend a good hand built rear wheel.
 

I continue to bust spokes on my rear wheel. See this thread. I think it was established in that thread that spoke tension and cheap wheels probably are causing me the trouble.

Anyway, about a week or so ago, i had the LBS (only one in town) put another new spoke in an retrue the wheel. He did not retension all of the spokes and i'm not even sure if they know how. Anyway, after only one week of riding, i checked the wheel last night and guess what. TWO broken spokes. I think this is now 4 or 5 on this wheel. They are all original spokes that are breaking and NOT the ones that were replaced.

They ALL break at the hub flange. Regardless, i am desperate for a solution. I don't have a lot of money to spend, but i think i am going to have to ditch this wheel. I can't even ride the bike regularly because the rear wheel is always out of commission.

I know that i need to learn how to start maintaining wheels if i am going to keep riding, but right now i think i would like to start with a better rear wheel. Can somebody recommend a decent rear wheel that will work with Avid BB5 discs? I don't need light and in fact i preper MORE spokes to fewer.

Are you willing to invest in building wheels yourself?

Your description of your current LBS scares me in terms of wheelbuilds.

When several spokes break on a wheel it's a good sign that the wheel needs to be totally rebuilt with new spokes, and a new rim if the rim has been damaged or has any cracks. If the rim is in good shape you could rebuild the wheel with new spokes and if the tension is maintained in the future you should have a good wheel. The latest broken spokes were probably weakened prior to the installation of the replacement spokes. I don't think you should blame the LBS for the broken spokes unless you told him to replace all of the spokes. Of course a new wheel would be the best option if it is within your budget.

I'm not really blaming my LBS, but i guess if the suggestion is that improper tension is what causes spokes to break, then they should probably suggest retensioning the entire wheel, if not rebuilding the entire wheel.

Either way, hopefully they will work with me on this. The bike is only 6 months old.
