Can shimano 600 pedals be easily overhauled/fixed?

    Hi,

My road bike is currently (and has for some time now) been gathering dust in large part because one of the pedals creaks in an unbearably loud manner when I ride it. Do I need to buy a new pair of replacement pedals? Or do you guys think I can fix the creaking pedal on my own?

    Many thanks.

Depends on which model 600 pedal it is.
Does it have a cap on the outboard side, covering the locknut and cone?
If so, overhaul it like if they were a hub axle.

Or is it a Shimano inboard axle? Then you'll require a special wrench from Shimano to disassemble the axle.

If they aren't too old, they may still be listed in Shimano's technical documents site. There you'll find an exploded parts view of their components.

Are you SURE it's the pedal that's creaking? How do you know? Noises on a bike can come from anywhere.
