Ultegra Shifter Rattles

I have Ultegra STI's. My problem is that that little cap on top of the shifter rattles on rough roads . I've heard this complaint all over the internet from owners of Ultegra. A long time ago, I found a website that had a very detailed way to fix the problem (with pictures!), but I never got around to actually fixing them so I deleted the website from my favorites. Now, the rattles have gotten too much to listen to, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Thanks! :)

I feel your pain. I bet the page you're talking about is:
http://www.chainreaction.com/noisystilevers.htm
Lots of other good reading on their web-site, too.

I've got Ultegra also, but on my bike, the caps are only part of the rattling. The shift make a fair amount of racket, too. Throw in the roadbuzz from the carbon fork, and the racket from the rear brake cable pinging against the top-tube, it adds up to quite a racket. I fixed the pinging with one of those felt pads that are made to go on table legs, etc., to keep them from scratching the floor.

Anyhow, it really makes me appreciate the peace and quiet when I go for a ride on my old, skinny tube, 7-speed down-tube shifter, chrome-moly fork Bianchi.

Why not slip a couple of cable donuts on the cable?

Two reasons... I would have to disconnect and quite possibly replace a perfectly good cable to put them on (cheap and lazy!), and I've been told they don't stop the noise, only change the pitch (granted, it was by a shop owner that was out of them).

That's the site! I'm going to get to fixing those annoying things as soon as I can. Thanks.

Oh YES! Last week I fixed those suckers...LoL! But...now the inside shift lever rattles to no end...grrrr! Yes well, at least it's not quite as noisy.

That embarassing noise.
Thanks guys.
