Spray Painting Wheel Spokes
I have a black wheel and spokes, most of the front wheel spokes are scratch up. Does anybody tried spray painting them or opt to just replacing all of them ? I have the mavic ssc sl wheel.

Are they so scratched that you couldn't fix this atrocity with a Sharpie?

All of the spokes in the front are - I will take some pictures so you guys get an idea. I might try that sharpie thing later when I get home.

If your spokes are that scratched, they may very well be damaged and in need of replacement.

or get a black paint pen works abit better than a sharpie would

Black SSC SLs scratch easily - it's very unlikely they're damaged. I have experimented with spraying standard steel spokes (SLs are aluminum) and it looked terrible. I suggest you just live with it or buy new spokes, although that would be a little expensive for a cosmetic detail like spoke color......

I tried the sharpie thing today - lets see how long that thing will last. Front wheel spokes are all scratched up. Does anybody know how much will it cost to replace a whole new set of spokes for the front ?

I have NEVER been a fan of black spokes OR rims because they end up looking like crap.

If the sharpie doesn't work, and you can't live with it, spray it with some BBQ black paint.
It adheres to metal better. Baking it on with a heat lamp or heat gun will make it stick better. +1, I avoid black spokes and stick with SS finish. |
I have actually spray-painted spokes while they're on the wheel. It came out looking great, though it took a lot of paint and a lot of work to get the coverage even. They do scratch very, very easily though. Touch up isn't too bad once you have spokes that match.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it.. just too much trouble. |
