Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Hi, im have troube with my Avid Juicy Carbons. The front brake is rubbing the disc a lot. I took the wheel off and looked at the spacing between the pads and they were way too close. So i took a flathead and rocked it between them and they got farther apart and when i put the wheel back on it didnt rub, but then when i tried to use the front brake the pads would rub again, a lot. It seems that the pads are not returning to their original positions once squeezed. Any ideas of what the problem could be? Would bleeding them help at all? (I have no experience with bleeding brakes)

There is a knob on the brake lever that moves the pads in and out. Check where it is set.
