    Help Measuring Spoke length

I am trying to learn how to build a wheel and I am running into a problem measuring my spoke length. I have used the various spoke calculators only to find they neither have my Rim ( Mavic x223 Disc) or Hub (Shimano Deore FH-M525). When I measured my Spoke length it comes out as 320 mm. Nobody seems to sell a length this long. I measured to other friends spokes and they also have 320 mm spokes. I am obviously doing something wrong. Can anyone help me. Thank you..

i have Spokcalc and found your rim, but not the hub (!). Maybe try searching web for listing of the physical dimensions of this hub?

Shall we assume you are building three-cross?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Using DT Swiss Spoke calculator online and the Mavic 223 disc and the Shimano XT disc hub (is most likely to be the same as your M525 Deore hub) the solution for a front wheel 32 spoke 3 cross is 259mm left and 260 right. You would be just fine using 260mm both sides.

You can check out this calculator to do the rear wheel.

I thank you all for your replies but I am not understanding what you mean by three cross? Also I have 36 Spokes instead of 32 and how come the calculator is coming up with measurements that are over an inch shorter?

3 cross describes the lacing pattern you really should take some time to read this:

Once you finish that, I'll bet you'll be ready to go
