STI lever compatibility with disc brakes

Hey guys and gals, gday from Australia. Currently my wife and I are riding vivente world radonneur touring bikes which have shimano Tiagra sti levers running ( on the front ) a shimano br505f mechanical disc with a 160mm rotor. I am about 85% happy with the performance of the brakes, and I am chasing any tips on improving their performance as I have heard varying opinions on the compatibility of STI levers with disc brakes. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Brad

Depends on the brakes. Your M505 brakes have been designed for use with STI levers.

That's interesting. I saw a couple of Trek road bikes at a local LBS with disc brakes and STI brifters and wondered how they made them work together as I didn't see any Travel Agents in the system. Now I know what the brakes must be.
