respray bike crank arms?

my bike cranks have rubbed away on the arms where theyve come into contact with my shoe. the rubbed off parts have now rusted meaning the inside of my shoes have stained brown with rust. i don't want to get new crank arms as they are gusset pigmy cranks (looked them up and there nearly £100) and i'd get them fitted at a bike shop which would cost even more money. i was looking at hammerite aluminium spray paint but i dont know wether that will work.

Is there anyway to easily respray crank amrs without taking them off and if i do have to take them off is there an easy way to do it?

thanks, Jamie

If your shoes wore the paint off of the cranks once, they'll do it again.

Actually, I would say from my experience, HammeRite would be a good choice for that particular application.
It's got a silicone component that would make it particularly durable against shoe abrasion.

Otherwise, just use some non ferrous wool, like copper, and polish the rust off. Wax regularly after that.

Another, more involved option; Remove the crank arms and have them powdercoated with color & clear.
THAT will take a loooong time to wear off.
