Avid Juicy 7 disassembly?

I'd like to take a caliper apart and clean the cruft out of it. The thing looks to be completely caked over w/ road salt, pad compound, dirt and etc.

Good idea? Methods?

Also, see the very important tip at the bottom of Page 11. Not many shop instructions include this crucial detail.

Well I came to the conclusion that a) I didn't follow the instructions on the bottom of page 11 and b) that caliper has gone to the dogs.
