Help! Tube Info Needed
I was wondering if I can use 700c tubes that I have plenty of on my parts shelf on my retro bike with 27" wheels? The tubes I have are 700x23c-25c presta valve, and my old bike has 27" araya rims schrader drilled with 27x1-1/8 tires. Will this work before I try it? Thanks

They will fit. However, the tube may fail at the valve due to it being in an oversized hole. Tubes move in the tire as the wheel rotates, and the valve is likely to rub against the schraeder sized opening.

25 = (ALMOST) 1" 1 1/8" isn't that much of a stretch, but I'd be wary. You can get 27 X 1" tires, which will give you the added benefits of lower rolling resistance, and looking less geek-like. Oh, by the way my fixed gear rides on 27 X 1 1/8" tires, but I am a geek, so I don't mind looking like one!

Use a stem adaptor on Schrader holes. Also, remove any edge burrs on the stem hole with silicon carbide paper, cover hole with rim tape/cloth tape & make an opening for the stem.

Save yourself alot of aggravation and fork over the 4 bucks for a new tube. The tube may physicaly fit but as it expands to fill the larger tire if stretches to the point where it can get very taught and thinner. The little adapter things can work but why give yourself all the aggravation of un-neccesary flats when the valve rips....as demon pointed out....
