New Chain Rings for Sakae CR
I am hoping to get some new chain rings for my Sakae CR cranks. The cranks have angled spider arms. I am not sure if regular squared chainwheels will work. Will I need to get chainwheels made specifically for these cranks? Will I be able to use normal chain rings? Or maybe some grinding?

Have you searched for replacement rings? You might be surprised what is available.
Also ask in the Classic and Vintage forum. I was able to get NOS rings for a 25 year old Ovaltech set. Old bikers never throw anything away.

Yes, I have seen replacement rings on eBay, but I was thinking about making it a compact double and I haven't seen any compact rings. As they are now, the rings are fine and have plenty of life left in them.

Borrow a 110 mm BCD chainring from an LBS and hold it up to your crank arms to see if it will fit directly (leaving a gap on the far side of the cut-out) or could be modified to fit. That's the easiest way to answer your question.
BTW, this must be an odd Sakae crank. I have both a Sakae FX and an SX model in my parts box and they have regular square cut chainring mounts on the spider arms.

Good idea about borrowing a chainring. I didn't think of that. I need to get a couple of tubes for a different bike, so I might as well just ride this bike to my lbs and check then. I'm thinking the square cut rings will work fine. After posting I started to look at the rings and the crank, The tapered rings' arms, don't know if that's the correct word, are also not perpendicular to the ring, but at an angle. I think a square ring, might fiit but come off of the spider at a different angle.
Yeah, odd crank, but I like it.

i have a set of the same cranks, but in 144bcd. i am not sure if the bolt areas are suitable for a standard chainring or not. did you have any problems fitting a standard ring, or should i start looking for custom stuff?
