Clamp rack on carbon post
I usually just have an underseat bag on my road bike, but on a tour or an all-day ride I like to take more stuff: outerwear, more tools, snacks or lunch, etc. For this I've been using one of those Topeak racks (with a trunk bag) that has a quick-release clamp around the seat tube. It's nice because I can use it mainly on my off-road bike as well.
Anyway, my next road bike will probably be a higher-end model and they all come with carbon posts these days. Would one of these clamp-on racks be safe to use on a carbon post? If it comes to it, I'd just get a regular steel post instead (not that much of a weight-weenie), but I was wondering if the carbon posts come with any warnings about that type of clamp and loading.

Topeak gives this warning on their seatpost racks
"MTX BeamRack is not suitable or intended to be used with carbon fiber seatposts."
Edit: That is the warning from the MTX PDF.. similar warnings are on the others.

When you buy the bike I'd have the LBS swap out the carbon post for a good quality Al like a Thompson. If you are buying a high end bike that should be a low or no cost exchange and solves your problem.
A couple of years ago I built up a Litespeed frame with a Campy Chorus 10-speed build kit and exchanged the Chorus carbon seat post for a Thompson at a negligable cost difference. Carbon is a wonderful material but I'm not convinced seatposts are one if its better applications.
