Advice on anything special re: truing Campy G3 spoke pattern wheels?

I've got over 10,000 miles on a 2006 Vento wheelset. The front is still spot on, a bit of wobble (1mm or a bit more) in the rear. No out of round problems.

Question- I have no problem truing 3 cross wheels. Anything special I need to know about working with the G3 pattern? I'm guessing I'd start by doing an 1/8th turn or less on the two (or 4, depending where the wobble was relative the nearest 3 spoke group) nearest spokes to the wobble to push the wobble back then an opposite (push) 1/8 turn on the opposite spoke(s) until it comes back.

Thanks in advance

Bill

It's not much different than truing a three cross wheel, except the paired spokes have different tensions than the single in the group of three, so you probably don't turn the two sides the same amount.

I have a Park tension meter and I make sure each spoke in the pairs has the same tension. You could tap the pairs and use the pitch difference, too.

On the rear, even though there's twice as many drive side spokes, they still have higher tension than the non-drive side spokes. On the front, the pairs of spokes have much less tension than the single one, of course.

I haven't had to true my wheels in 7500 miles, either.

This might be a good time to get that tension meter :-) Thanks for the advice, I didn't know about the differential tension.

Working on the trio of spokes on either side of the wobble seemed to work. FWIW, a 32 spoke cross 3 Mavic OP/Record will probably be my goal if I "upgrade" these. The wobble wasn't enough to even fool with, just curious to see if I could get it out.

I just bought a set of 2004 Vento wheels and the front is a little out. Also, most of the spokes have a different pitch/sound when striking. Did you ever true your wheels? I know this is an old thread but there is so little information anywhere about these wheels so just trying to learn what I can.

Thanks.
