Will it work?

Can I use a vintage super record crankset with a newer (05) Veloce 10 speeds group? (ergo shifters, FD, RD, 10 speeds chain and casstte) Will I run into chain line problem or chain spacing problem since 10 speeds chain is narrower?
Thanks
Andrew

If you know a machinist...sure, it could be done.

If you're asking if it will work without some serious kludging...no.

I'm trying to build up my steel bike using spare parts that I've collected so far, I have all of the veloce 10 speeds components except the crankset and BB but I do have a good set of Super Record crankset 52/42 available but no BB. Should I purchase a BB for Super Record crankset and use it or I should better off getting a new Veloce crankset and BB since the Super Record crankset will not work with 10 speeds component?
Thanks

If you can find some 10s 144bcd chainrings.

I think you'll be better off buying the Veloce and saving the SR for a vintage drivetrain

Excuse me butting in ... what's the difference in a 10 speed front chain-ring? Is it narrower to match a narrow chain?

Thanks,

Tony

Da . Chainring width has gone narrower in the last 5 years so much so that an
"old" /last century crankset with 8-9 speed rings will not work smoothly
with new 10 speed stuff almost a millimeter diff. 7.3 old 5/6/7 speed 7.1 6/7/8 speed
6.6 9speed 5.88 10 speed Campy is 6.8 for 9 spd and 5.9 for 10 speed just to keep us awake.
there are more ....but why... oh yeah single speed 1/2"x1/8" is 7.8
and now SRAM has its very own 10speed at 5.95mm
So there.
