nexus 3spd

so i got this folding bike out of the dumpster and it has a 3spd hub
when i got it all the cables and shifters were trashed so i tossed em, i think its missing some parts for the hub? and also i think the brake might be missing something, or i think i just need a cable
im wondering where i can find a kit and shifter to get it working again or if it will worth the hassle
sorry if this is a dumb question!

Thanks for pictures. Looks like on the NDS you're simply missing the collar that attaches the coaster brake arm to the chainstay. Simple repair that you could go to a LBS or hardware store for.

The DS is missing the "derailleur" and shift spring. There's a sprung rod that fits into that hole you see in the axle. There's also a cable actuated body that fits over the rod and pushes it in and allows it to come out (i.e. shift). The cable actuated body would be attached via standard shift cable/housing to a 3-speed gripshifter on the handlebars. All of that stuff could be ordered from your LBS for, oh, maybe $30 or $40. Don't quote me on that price, but the entire unit (hub included) isn't all that expensive.

Good luck.

I like internal gear hubs, so I am inclined to say you should try to get it going again.

It is suspicious to me that the hub seems to have been stripped of some crucial parts, I hope that does not mean the hub itself is junk and the parts were removed to move over to something else. I doubt it though. If it were mine, I would keep my eyes peeled (on Ebay, and at dusty LBS's) for the parts needed for it. They can be found easily new, of course, also.

The clamp on the brake side is easy to cobble up; any old clampy thing will do the trick. The shifting stuff on the drive side will be more of a challenge.
