Stumey Archer Hubs...

Quick question, which I can't seem to find the answer to...

Did SA ever make a hub that has both a coaster brake AND back pedal shifting? I hope these two things aren't mutually exclusive, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they most definitely are...

Most definitely mutually exclusive. Also, I think SA did not, in fact, make a back pedal shifting hub, though I am not 100% sure.

just as I thought! who then does/did produce backpedaling shifting hubs? I am trying to minimize the amount of clutter on my bike, and I suppose I would much rather run a drum brake 5 or 8 speed and just deal with two cables, although the coaster brakes versions are cool. I am hard pressed to find a coasterbrake internal geared hub with more than 3 speeds.

I think SRAM P5 (5 speeds) comes in a coaster brake version. The S7 definitely comes in a coaster brake version. I have it, and it's the subject of another thread I started recently.

Shimano makes coaster brake versions of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 8 (and the lower ones). These are good quality coaster brakes, and the Nexus 8 has a rathe large gearing ratio. It's a very good value AND quality for money, in my opinion.

The only "2-speed kickback" hubs I know of were made by Bendix and Sachs, and both were available with a coaster brake.

The other 2-speed kickback is the Sachs Duomatic.

As for coaster brake internal gear hubs with more than 3 gears, there is the following:

Sram P5
Sram S7
Sram i-Motion 9
Shimano Nexus 7
Shimano Nexus 8
Shimano Nexus 4 (discontinued)

Now we can add to the mix the newly re-launched Sturmey 5 speed coaster.
