new bike issue

Hi,
I picked up my new Specialized Allez Elite on Wednesday and finally got to do a decent ride today, and noticed an issue. When I'm in the smaller chainring (I've got a compact), and in a middle gear, the chain seems to sporadically skip down a gear and then jump back up. I'm going to take it in this week, but I wanted to ask here and see if anyone had any suggestions of what the problem might be.
Thanks in advance.

YOu likely need to increase tension on the derailleur cable. Turn the barrel adjuster counterclockwise a quarter turn at a time until the chain stops jumping.

To clarify, Peek is talking about the rear derailleur, if it wasn't clear. After some use, a new cable will stretch a little, which leads to too low of tension. This isn't an "issue" just a routine bit of maintenance. Don't take it into the shop, instead check out this section (and the whole article for more info):

I tried this yesterday with the bike hanging up, and it seemed to fix it, but I didn't have a chance to ride just yet. I'll test it later this morning. Thanks guys.

Well, went for a ride this morning, and the adjustment worked. Thanks.
