Water Here and There

[I tried the search feature w/o luck]

I bought a mint '94 Diamondback Ascent yesterday at our local Good Will store for $36. Got it home, pumped up the tires and it is 'like new'. Can't find any signs of wear on any of the parts.

The only problem is storage grunge. I have a hot-water pressure washer that would clean it but was wondering about getting water inside various parts of the frame. I'm NOT concerned about the bearings. More concerned about getting water into the various frame tubes. For example, does the bottom of the seat tube open into the bottom bracket?

I've read numerous posts here from others using pressure washers, spraying Simple Green, rinsing with a garden hose, etc.

What special precautions, if any, do you take to 'seal' openings?

The seat tube and downtube usually open into the bb shell and the chain stays may also. The best way to find out is to strip the frame completely and then wash it.

That said, a pressure washer shouldn't be needed. A bucket of warm water, Simple Green or similar cleaner and a rag should be plenty to remove any level of dirt.
