seat wobbles
 

My seatpost collar clamp is tight, and the single nut that clamps my saddle to the seatpost is tight, but my saddle nose moves laterally about 1/4 inch and vertically about 1/8 inch. My seat post is a Kalloy suspension post. Today I discovered that the movement seems to be in the "inner" post of the suspension post. Is that normal?

Check the bolt that holds the nose to the saddle mounting hardware. This is a common area that comes loose. Sometimes the mounting is a looped strap that goes around a thick wire mounting. This loop jiggles around the wire and gets loose. No amount of tightening will fix the problem.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to fix because the area is too confined to access with common tools.

If possible, bring the saddle back to the seller and get a new one (get a different model).

The clickety click of the seat will drive you nuts as long as you own it.

It might be the suspension itself has become worn. Either way, it's sure to drive you nuts eventually. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

This seems to be a generic fault of suspension seatposts.
Take it back and get a fixed post. If you really need some bounce in your saddle, get a Brooks sprung saddle. The Conquerer model is their lighter sprung one for off-road riding.

I had the same problem, and still have it. It's a suspension seat and the inner post moves just like you said. I'm living with it, but won't for very much longer.

I think some suspension seat posts have an adjustment screw accessible from the bottom of the post. Maybe that can be tweaked a bit. Or try another, mo' better, post. Has anyone tried the crane creek thudbuster?

I just read ur problem with ur seat post...i want to tell u that i too have a similar problem with my suspension seat post. The actual tube is clamped down good, but i can wiggle the inner post with a lateral movement of approx. 1/4 inch left and right.

The bike shop told me that it is a typical characteristic of suspension seat posts. Whenever i ride my bike. i feel that my lower body is moving one way and my upper body is moving the other way, which is a very insecure feeling for me....i am looking to replace it with a regular spring suspension type seat and forget any kind of suspension seat post.
