Just wasted a new Avid brake pad!!

Well, looking to get rid of the sqeeking brakes in the rear, I decided to drop in new pads. Got a set of the same avid pads as the originals - however, after pulling out the old ones, I struggled trying to get that damm little retainer to fit on the new pads in order to slide them back in. It appeared as the new pads, the section that is just the pad was to large for the metal adaptor. Anywho, I tried to slip the pad on this little metal piece, and it cut a small chunk out of the pad - which then does not hold the metal retainer in place. It becomes a problem when the pads are in the caliper, because the little metal tab rubs against the damm rotor. Whats up with the bad fit!!!!!!!!!

interesting... you'd think that since they were made by the same company that they' fit. my avid pads fit without a problem. can't you bend the tabs outward so they don't rub the rotor?

Yep bend it to make it work. I did it to my EBC pads for my Hayes Hydro's.
