Manitou SX fork: rebuild or junk?
Hey all,
I have a 2000 Manitou SX fork that i have been debating on whether to upgrade or rebuild. The question comes from the shocks performance, which is so say that it bottoms out if I put all my weight down on the front fork. It seems a bit soft to me and I'm not sure where the problem lies. The fork has maybe 200 miles total and has been in storage for most of it's life. The elastomers are in great shape and I have emptied and refilled the oil to the O.E.M levels. I have the preload set at maximum and it still feels soft. Lots of pogo action at all speeds and even a bit of sag if I just lean on it. Is there an air adjustment that I'm missing? An air bubble in the oil chamber? Is this fork actually so soft that a 180 pound rider like myself could bottom it out? The fork does not have the lockout adjustment. If anyone who has expierience with this fork could give me some advice I would appreciate it.

you are out of luck on rebuild parts from Answer (now HB Suspension). I know for a fact that they don't have parts for older forks. However, there might be a shop in your area that may have parts. Answer used to supply dealers with service kits containing tons of spare and rebuild parts. If you can find a dealer with one of these, you just struck gold. F.Y.I....I know that Wheel and Sprocket in Brookfield WI has one of these kits. I used to work there full time, and now part time, but I have rebuilt several Manitous with parts from this kit.

It sounds like one of the compression damping valves/washers is broken or stuck open. A possible source for parts for the manitou units is www.enduroforkseals.com, they have a lot of old stock parts and information. A source for diagrams is www.angryasian.com.
