Chainrings on 1983 Bianchi Nuovo

I've got a 1983 Bianchi Nuovo that I converted into a fixed gear a few years back. I bought new wheels for it, the rear one with a flip-flop hub. I left the original chainrings on the front and have been using the larger 52 tooth chainring with the fixed side of the rear hub for some time now. It's worked great without any problems, so I didn't see a need to replace the front chainrings.

A couple of months ago on my commute home, I took a pretty good spill on this bike. I hit the ground at about 35MPH and banged up myself and the bike. I've fixed most of the problems on the bike but what I've run into is that I seem to have sheared two of the hollow bolts that hold the two chainrings together. That's likely not the right term for them, but I'm not 100% sure what to call them.

Where can I find that particular bolt? I kind of wonder if they sheared because of the stress of riding fixed all the time and the wreck just happened to push them passed their limit. Is it worth replacing that part or should I spend a little extra money and get a single chainring for the front? If I need a single chainring, what's the best way to go about fitting a singlespeed chainring for that bike?

Thanks!

Any bike shop should have replacement chainring bolts.

If you want to use a single front ring just replace your chainring bolts with shorter ones, aka BMX or single speed bolts.
