10 speed to 12 speed swap?

I have a 24 inch kids sized road bike with a 5 speed cassette or probably more specific freewheel. I also have a 27 inch Raleigh with a 6 speed cog set on it of similar vintage early (80's). The Fuji has a friction set up with a Suntour Seven rear Drl. The Raleigh has a Suntour Accushift X-2000 index setup. I want to "upgrade" the 24 inch Fuji with the 5 speed friction to the Raleigh's 6 speed index setup. Can it be done? The only time I took apart a Suntour rear wheel I didn't have the proper tool or perhaps know-how to take off the rear cogs. How do I do this? Will adding one gear be to much of a spacing issue? Will I need to use the axle from the 6 speed to accommodate it? Any advice? If it's to much of an endeavor I'd like to simply swap out the wheelset and drivetrain from the Raleigh to an older Raleigh Record I'm restoring which I believe will be an easy swap. Thanks, JDEcho

The swap will work . You will need one or two freewheel puller to remove the two freewheels from the wheels and swap over. I don't think you need to switch the axles . You'll also needs new cables because the sizes of the frames . Good luck with this . Put the puller in the freewheels ,then a wench on the puller and turn counterwise to breaks then lose.

You should be able to swap a 5 speed freewheel for a 6 with almost no problems whatsoever...
