Dura Ace 7800 crank - Ultegra bottom bracket

I did a search looking for info on the compatibility of an Ultegra 6600 bottom bracket with a Dura Ace 7800 crank, but only found information telling me that the Dura Ace BB is compatible with the Ultegra 6600 crank. I just want confirmation that an Ultegra 6600 BB is compatible with the Dura Ace 7800 crank, and are there other things I should consider (spacers, etc) when making this installation?

Duff Man says "Oh No!" The 7800 cranks have outboard bearings. The 7800 has the spindle that is part of the crank, the 6600 the spindle is part of the BB.

"D'oh!!"

I assume this means that the Ultegra BB is not compatible with the Dura Ace 7800 crank?

The Ultegra and Dura Ace external bearing bottom bracket sets are interchangable. The 6600 spindle is part of the crank just like it is on the 7800 crank.

The Ultegra 6500 (9-speed, Octalink) bottom bracket had the spindle as part of the bb as did the 7700 Dura Ace version. These were also interchangable.

Good to know, thanks! This will be my first time swapping out a crank, so it's good to know that the Ultegra 6600 BB that's already installed will work for me. Besides having the appropriate tools, is there any other information that I should know for my first time at this? FYI, it's a carbon fiber frame. I plan on consulting the Park Took site for the correct method for doing this.

6600 cranks work with 6500 BB?

Hi, I'm thinking of getting the ultegra 6600 165mm cranks, which is 10-speed. I currently have the 6500 9-speed cranks and what I assume to be 6500 BB (I can't actually see the part number). Would the 6500 BB work with the 6600 cranks? Thanks in advance.

No. 6500 uses an Octalink bottom bracket. You will have to buy the outboard bearing cups which will add about $30 to the cost. I just did that very same switch out Saturday.....
