How many 'clicks' on a Tiagra triple front shifter
Hi,
Could someone pl. tell me how many clicks you get on a Tiagra triple front shifter (STI, road)?
From smallest to largest ring, I get four, two for shifting and two for trimming. Going down, however, I get only three: two for shifting and one for trimming on the middle chainring.
Reason for asking: Recently, while shifting from middle front ring to small ring while going full tilt uphill, I heard a few nasty clicks and things didn't shift. After that, I think the down (smaller 'b' lever) has one less click (I hope I'm mistaken; can't really remember how many there were before). Shifting is okay, but the red indicator thingie on the shifter is out of place now: It used to be extreme left and right, and two points around the black hair lines while on the middle ring depending on the trimming position. Now it is extreme left, somewhat left, middle, and extreme right.
Also, after those nasty loud clicks I had to adjust the front barrels quite a bit for things to start shifting okay again.
Thanks,
Rushi

I thinks your cable broke free from something in side and that why you have to readjust.it should be fine from now on .

Could be that the cable wasn't seated all the way into the shifter.
Or maybe the cable binding bolt on the derailleur let the cable slip.
Generally speaking Shimano road triple capable shifters have a position for the big ring and two positions for the middle ring, one on either side of the middle ring. The small chain ring position is simply when all of the cable is out of the shifter. Most shifters will have an additional trim position for the small ring. The two middle ring positions may also be used for trimming.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. Shifting including the trim on the middle ring is working fine. So I think I'm happy :-)
Al1943, I think you're right, maybe things were not seated properly from the beginning; these are new shifters and they went through some stress for the first time.
Thanks,
Rushi
