    Which rear mech

How do I know which rear mech to use. The Shimano SS and GS seem to have similar spec re max/min sprocket size?

it depends on the overall difference of the teeth and that is calculated as (large rear cog-small rear cog)+(large front chainwheel-smallest front chainwheel) = overall teeth difference

then you choose the one with an appropriate max range

SS is generally for doubles (road)
GS is generally for triples (road)
