Is it necessary to run a special stem with carbon bars? I run carbon bars on my Rockhopper. I want to replace the current stem with one having a 45-degree rise. My LBS had one such stem in stock. I believe the brand is "Dimension". There is no indication on that stem that it is compatible with carbon bars. The stem looks low-end: it looks cast, rather than machined. Does it matter that the stem does not say that it is specifically compatible with carbon bars?

Just be sure to use the torque spec the BAR manufacturer recommends for the type of stem (two-bolt or four-bolt faceplate) you are going to use. The torque spec engraved on most stems is generally intended for Al bars.
