upgrading cranckset

I am seriously considering upgrading the cranckset originally installed on my bike ( Diamondback Edgewood '07). Original is a Suntour Nex 200 triple (48-38-28) that seems to flex under pressure. I have available to me a Shimano Ultegra triple (52-42-30) with a compatible BB. Front derailleur is a Shimano Tourney C051 with indexed shifters (EF-50 Rapid Fire).
I feel I can do the exchange and subsequent front derailleur adjustment but before I attempt it I would like to know if anybody with more knowledge and experience can advise if this should be attempted .
I would welcome any helpful advice.
