Speedplay Zero pedal/cleat clipping issue
I can clip in/out of my new rightside Speedplay Zero pedal. The left one , however,
is extremely difficult to clip in. It takes numerous tries; when I do finally clip in, it
is usally when I drop my heel/raise toe at a steep angle. I've lubed pedals and cleats
and made sure each had grease in the Speedplay recommended places.
Any advice/suggestions? Could it be that I simply meed to back out the 4 cleat screws
a turn or two to releive pressure on cleat mechanisms?

Make sure the cleats are flush with the sole of your shoe before tightening them down use the shims for this so your not distorting the cleats when tightening them down.

Thanks, but cleats are mounted with proper shim to my Sidi shoes.
After I installed them, I had LBS folks look 'em over during a bike fit
a few weeks ago...sure was easier clipping in with left foot while
on a trainer stand.

I use the x2 model and when I first started using them I did find at times they would not clip in right away the wife had the same problem. But later I discovered it was the way I was trying to get them in, its a little hard to explain but starting at a angle seemed to make it harder to clip like pushing it in from the rear of the pedal and trying to get the front half to pop in straight down seems to just slide in. Do you notice some times when you get it just right it just slip in with out any effort and other times your fighting it? Take notice if it when it just slips in.
Now I have no problem clipping in and I always spray silicone on the cleats before rides. On mine and wifes SIDI shoes I didn't need to use any of the shims that came with the pedals.

Perhaps the shims are not correct. A shim could be out of spec or the curve of the shoe is not correct. Loosen the screws holding the cleat to the shoe & see is if a gap develops. A flexed cleat will not clip in easily.

The cleat screws may be a bit too tight. Try loosening them 1/4 turn. Use blue Locktite on the screw threads.
The screws that hold the adapter plate to the shoes should be very tight and should also have blue Locktite.

I think AL is on the right track. Speedplay cleats are very picky about how tightly you mount them to the shoe.
