Fork Service?

I just brought my bike into the shop for a tune up, and when I got it back the fork worked way better than before I brought it in. I can't afford to pay $30 every time I want the fork working better, so I was wondering if anybody here could tell me what they do in order to make it work better (more plush, smoother, absorbs smaller bumps better). The fork has elastomers and oil dampening (nothing high end, the fork is an RST off the Specialized Hardrock Comp). I'm familiar with other bike maintenance, but not with the fork.
BTW, I've checked the fork manual, it doesn't have any useful info.

Thanks,
Sam

Probably, your fork has adjustable shocks. They can be adjusted according to the rider's weight and preferences.

$30 for a tuneup?

I'd take it back again and again. That's a screaming deal.

I know how to adjust it, they didn't change that, they lubed or cleaned something. The stanchions where cleaner, but I don't think that could have made a whole lot of difference.
Maybe I'll just go back and ask them.
